Author’s Note: Esme was making a point of how always Rach
seemed to say “shut up” to Frank and then kiss him. Well, I got
inspired, so here ya go esme! Something a tad bit.. different… and wow,
gotta be the fastest fic I've ever written. Took me what.. an hour
Julia?
It was raining. Big, wet, fat drops of rain bombarded the
ground. Small rivers ran through the streets, the cars functioning more
like boats. People hurried here and there, seeking cover wherever
possible from the pouring of the sky.
And it was gray, wet and
dull day, meant to be spent indoors.
Unfortunately, Frank
Holloway couldn’t. Already he was soaked, and with every passing minute,
he was getting wetter. If that was possible. All the time watching his
partner search frantically for the carkeys.
She had lost them.
He just knew it! And so they would be stuck here, somewhere far
into nowhere land, because bloody Rachel had gotten the bloody addy
wrong and now she had lost the bloody carkeys. He shook his head at the
sky, almost theatrically. It had started as a miserable day, and it was
getting worse by the minute.
“Any luck yet?” he asked
sarcastically.
“Bugger it Frank!” she snapped back at him, “shit!
I can’t believe…”
“That ya lost the carkeys,” he added.
“I
did NOT loose them!”
“Whatever,” he said, shrugging his
shoulders.
“You are NOT being helpful here Holloway!”
“Oh,
so NOW ya need my help?! But not when you’re driving and certainly not
when it comes to taking directions!!!”
They stared at each other
in mock anger, both soaked to the skin as more and more water fell from
the sky.
“Francis James Holloway, you are the most stubborn,
pig-headed…”
“Well, ya can’t admit to making a mistake, Miss
Bloody Perfect Detective Senior Constable Rachel
Goldstein!!!”
“SHUT UP!!” both screamed in unison, only to lock
gazes to have another staring match. And they probably would have stared
at each other till they turned to stone, hadn’t the clear ring of a
mobile phone interrupted them.
“Yeah?!” Rachel answered
it
“It’s Helen,” the familiar voice replied.
“Who gave the
bloody wrong addy?!” Rachel snapped back, unwilling to let her anger
go.
“Everything alright,” she asked a few seconds later, almost
seeing the tension flare between the two detectives.
“Fine!”
Rachel snapped, “who gave the bloody wrong addy anyway?”
“The
central got it mixed up, sorry about that, and it turned out bogus
anyway. You can head home if ya like..”
“Yeah.. umm.. great…” She
could hear Frank snickering, and turned to give him a glare.
“Is
there a problem?” Helen’s worried voice came through.
“Umm..
yeah.. we seem to have lost the carkeys…”
“We,” Frank repeated
sarcastically, “yeah, *we* indeed.”

Their ride home
was a laughing Mick, who seemed to find it very amusing. Dropping them
off at Frank’s place, he drove off giggling to himself.
They
stood in the doorway for a while, just glaring.
“This is about
last night, isn’t it??!!” she snapped after a while.
“And just
what makes ya think that, Rach!” he snapped back.
“I did NOT
initiate a kiss!!!” she replied forcefully.
“Ya did
too!!!”
“I did NOT!”
“Frank, when I initiate a kiss it
will be like this!” and with that she pulled his mouth to hers so fast
he had no chance of reacting in anyway before she had pulled back again,
leaving him dazzled.
“*That’s* initiating a kiss!” she snapped,
and practically ran away.
He reached her before she had gotten
too far, grabbing her arm.
“What the hell is the matter with
ya?!” he inquired.
“Let me go, Frank,” she hissed, but he held
her just as firmly.
“What the hell is the matter with ya?!” she
shot back a few seconds later, when he still refused to let
go.
“*I* asked first!”
“Yeah, well… well… I… You shouldn’t
have kissed me!”
“And what the hell was that just in the
doorway??!!”
“That was a demonstration! It had absolutely
nothing…”
“Shut up Rach.. you’re full of crap!” She
blinked.
“What?? Frank, you have the nerve talking…” she began,
but got cut off.
”Rach, shut up!! Just shut
up!!!!”
”Frank…” she stuttered, staring confused at
him.
“SHUT UP!!!” he screamed, and she backed away a bit, scared
by the intensity of his gaze. And then the anger turned to something
else. . His eyes got a bit cloudy, and she felt her breath grow more
rapid. He couldn’t possibly…
“Don’t be a fool, Rachel Goldstein,”
she thought to herself firmly, but she kept backing away, until she hit
something hard. The car. She had nowhere left to back to. And he was
advancing.
“Frank...” she warned.
“I told you to shut
up,” he said with a glimmer in his eyes. And then his mouth was on hers,
demanding, possessive, still fueled by their argument, but first and
foremost so good…
And she could feel herself respond in
equal kind, and her hands were certainly didn’t seem to hesitate. It was
him who finally pulled away, to gaze into her eyes.
“I can’t
believe it…” he whispered
“What?”
“I finally found a way
to shut ya up.”
She rolled her eyes, but let him hold her, not
protesting too much as he nibbled a bit on an earlobe.
“Rach.. I
don’t regret trying to kiss ya last night even if ya took a swing at
me.”
“Ah, ya know how to turn a woman on, don’t ya Holloway!” she
joked.
“Do you want this Rach?” he asked seriously, searching her
eyes for an answer. She stiffened a bit.
“I dunno Frank.. I..
have to think…”
“Yeah, okay, so I’ll just be… home..” he said,
and the flash of hurt that crossed his face almost broke her heart. As
he turned to go, she called out.
”Frank?”
”Yeah?”
”Make me shut up.”
It had stopped raining.
But neither of them noticed as he ran up to her and tackled her to the
ground.
It had stopped raining.
